As Merlin Software continued to grow, many Cobalt clients expanded their operations. To facilitate the management of multiple sites and aid travelling staff such as delivery drivers or agronomists, we introduced Cobalt Touch. Designed to be accessed via a web browser through a private protocol, Cobalt Touch stays true to the design principles behind the Cobalt Enterprise Server (CES). It can only be accessed when the private protocol is set up by a member of our dedicated Merlin Support team.

Accessibility and Real-Time Communication

Cobalt Touch is accessible via smartphones, tablets, or portable data terminals, enabling users to carry the device with them as they conduct their tasks around the store. It does not rely on the store’s WiFi, and our Merlin Support team can configure devices to access the system from anywhere in the world.

The private protocol communicates with the CES in real time. This means any changes made via a Cobalt Touch device are instantly available on any Cobalt POS session, ensuring that transactions processed via Cobalt Touch instantly appear in Cobalt on all desktops and laptops.

Enhancing Efficiency and Consistency across Operations

Cobalt Touch proves its usefulness in various scenarios. In drive-thrus, users can load goods into a vehicle, scan them with their smartphone, and send the invoice immediately. Delivery drivers can check stock levels while on their runs, and agronomists can reserve stock when they leave a client’s farm. Staff can order stock with their phones if they notice an empty shelf while walking around the shop or warehouse, and they can also receipt it in when it arrives.

Cobalt Touch even has its own stocktaking facility, making stocktakes not only efficient but also eco-friendly. All counts can be made digitally, eliminating the need for pen and paper.
